The State Fair of Texas

Yesterday I sat down to write a post about the State Fair of Texas, but I didn't quite get that far.

On Tuesday a group of five of us (plus baby) went to the State Fair of Texas here in Dallas. It was one of the most fun days I've had since I've been here! We explored everything in just a few hours... the petting zoo, the cars, the dog show, the fried food and Big Tex himself.

We ate some pretty interesting (and sometimes gross) fried food, including pizza, pb&j, beer, margarita, cookie dough, frito pie, and corn dogs. While eating the cookie dough, our friend said, "This is just too much." We all laughed and said, "fried beer, fried margarita, no problem... but COOKIE DOUGH? This is too much!"

The petting zoo was among the most ridiculous displays of animals I've ever seen. It was basically a real zoo, where you could pet the animals. They had a giraffe! Zebras! Emus, ostriches, camels! It was crazy, and we fed all the animals and pet them all except for the ostrich which was frightening with its beady eyes and pointed little pecky nose.

And of course we ate Fletcher's famous corn dogs!

We had a great time, and can I say one more time how awesome it is that my best friend lives here?

I'm going to Portland for a wedding this weekend. I'll be gone tomorrow through next Wednesday and I won't be blogging. Check back next Thursday!
